With an influx of South Asian diaspora into the West, the North American global desi is now a substantial audience comprised of ethnically South Asian but experientially Western populations. This youth demographic is constantly on the lookout for cultural and entertainment experiences that cater to their particular East meets West identities. desiFEST is just this kind of an offering.

Now in its 13th year, this South Asian music festival featured a number of programs such as BollyEDM, an open stage to showcase new talents, and a networking event for artists. desiFEST itself was a music festival that took place across a non-stop twelve-hour period in a celebration of diversity.

Headlining the event were the rapper, singer, and songwriter, Raja Kumari who is becoming something of a household name; along with Jaz Dhami, who has conquered the music world through his dedication for more than a decade becoming the much sought after bhangra-hip hop fusing vocalist. Other artists included Nani, Zzen – a band which infuses Indian folk music with rock inflections, the genre-blending XD Pro Music, and many more.
