Dipa Talukder is a professionally trained Classical Indian dancer and choreographer. Dipa started training in the beautiful art form Kathak at the tender age of six. She has never stopped dancing since then. Although she grew up in Canada, her passion has always been Indian music and dance. Her early training in Kathak was initially under Ms. Salina Ahmed Jharna. Since then, Dipa has had the honour to study under Alokparna Guha (from Calcutta), Hemant and Vaishali Panwar, Sangeeta Majumdar (from Calcutta), Pali Chandra, and Pandit Shri Rajendra Gangani (currently the head of the Jaipur Gharana).
From a very young age, Dipa has been performing on stage for a number of events across the GTA. Recently, she has had the opportunity to choreograph and present many solo performances in prestigious events, namely Toronto Sanskriti Sangstha and Vendanta Society.
Dipa’s dream is to encourage Canadian youths to learn Classical Indian Dance. The literature of Indian dance compositions are based on mythology, customs, and traditions. It is important that the coming generations are exposed to these art forms.
Dipa will be conducting Beginner’s Kathak lessons starting Fall 2017. Check out her Facebook page for more updates in the summer: https://www.facebook.com/dipadance.
Although Kathak is Dipa’s favourite dance form, she loves choreographing Bollywood tracks to mix both classical and modern dance movements. Creativity should have no limits!
